In the early 1970s high performance ceramic coatings became a successful thermal barrier coating for internal engine use with NASCAR Winston Cup teams. Thermal barrier ceramic coatings increase part longevity, reduces temperatures, increases horsepower and protects parts from thermal fatigue. Cerakote applications are .5-1 mil thick and provides a hard finish which is resistant to rust and chipping. Thermal barrier ceramic coatings are commonly referred to as exhaust coatings, header coatings, high heat coatings or Cerakote applications.
